Arriving at Kau Sai Chau or Clearwater Bay and heading straight to the first tee without warming up is one of the most reliable ways to ruin the opening holes of your round. Hong Kong's heat and humidity, particularly during the summer months, mean your body adapts quickly - but your swing patterns still need to be activated before you play.
Start With Your Body, Not a Club
Spend five minutes on basic mobility. Hip circles, torso rotations, and gentle side bends will get your core and hips moving in the directions they need to move during a golf swing. This is more useful than any number of practice swings.
Work Up Through the Bag
When you get to the range, start with your most lofted club - a sand wedge or pitching wedge. Hit short, controlled shots. After ten to fifteen balls with short irons, work up to mid-irons, then a fairway wood, and finish with a few drives. You are building rhythm, not hitting hard.
Finish on the Putting Green
The putting green is the most important and most neglected part of the warm-up. Hit several long putts to get a feel for the pace. Then hit a handful of short putts to build confidence.
This Is Not Practice
Your warm-up is not the time to fix your swing. You are building feel and rhythm. If something feels off, note it and move on.
Book a session at GOLFTEC Hong Kong and ask your coach to build a pre-round routine tailored to your specific swing.
